The survey asked respondents a series of questions. This includes their backgrounds, which starts with asking them if 1.) they are a parent or caregiver of deaf or hard of hearing children, 2.) a professional who works with deaf and hard of hearing students, or 3.) both, a parent-professional (including those who are caregivers). The survey also asked respondents to select from a list of 14 barriers that they believe might prevent deaf and hard of hearing students from achieving their potential. The Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center at Gallaudet University is a federally funded center with exemplary elementary and secondary education programs for deaf and hard of hearing students and is tasked with developing and disseminating innovative curricula, instructional techniques, and products nationwide while providing information, training, and technical assistance for parents and professionals to meet the needs of deaf and hard of hearing students from birth to age 21.
