Overview


The Clerc Center collects public input to determine what to prioritize for its national work. This means figuring out what is most important, developing resources, and sharing information. The Clerc Center does this by collecting and analyzing information, and sharing what they learned.

In 2017 and 2018, the Clerc Center asked people from all over the country: What are the barriers that prevent deaf and hard of hearing students from achieving their academic, linguistic, and socio-emotional potential? People could pick from a list of 14 barriers. They could also write about their perspectives while answering the question. The results can be found below in Qualitative Findings or in Gallaudet University’s Annual Report of Achievements.

FAQs

A: The Clerc Center collects feedback from the public to get information that helps determine what they should focus on for research, development, and dissemination in line with the Education of the Deaf Act.

A: For each cycle, feedback is collected from different groups of people who have unique viewpoints. Each time the Clerc Center collects public input, different ways to get and analyze data are used. For this reason, the results from different cycles cannot be compared.

A: At this time, we only share public input in the languages people used when they filled out the survey.

About the Clerc Center

The Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center at Gallaudet University is a federally funded center with exemplary elementary and secondary education programs for deaf and hard of hearing students and is tasked with developing and disseminating innovative curricula, instructional techniques, and products nationwide while providing information, training, and technical assistance for parents and professionals to meet the needs of deaf and hard of hearing students from birth to age 21.
