These resources focus on the learning characteristics, social-emotional needs, and educational placement considerations of children who are deaf or hard of hearing. Resources are tailored to educational, medical, and therapeutic professionals working with children who are deaf or hard of hearing in schools and other settings. Training

Fingerspelling Our Way to Reading is an evidence-based, supplementary literacy program for deaf and hard of hearing students in kindergarten to second grade. The program has two components: a three-day-per-week fingerspelling program and a complementary two-day-per-week reading comprehension program.

Three Federal laws support deaf and hard of hearing students’ participatin in educational programming in public schools. All students with disabilities will be educated, and their educational and access needs will be met at public expense.

WEBINAR

Guidelines

Section 2 in the comprehensive set of guidelines designed for educational planning for deaf and hard of hearing students, contains the School-Based Language Competency Checklists, a tool that each member of the student’s educational planning team can use to record observations of the student’s use of language. This product reflects the collaborative work between the Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center and the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program of Boston Children’s Hospital.
