Fingerspelling Our
Way to Reading

Fingerspelling Our Way to Reading is an evidence-based, supplementary literacy program for deaf and hard of hearing students in kindergarten to second grade. The program has two components: a three-day-per-week fingerspelling program and a complementary two-day-per-week reading comprehension program.

Students with Cochlear Implants-Guidelines for Educational Programming

Section 2 in the comprehensive set of guidelines designed for educational planning for deaf and hard of hearing students, contains the School-Based Language Competency Checklists, a tool that each member of the student’s educational planning team can use to record observations of the student’s use of language. This product reflects the collaborative work between the Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center and the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program of Boston Children’s Hospital.

About the Clerc Center

The Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center at Gallaudet University is a federally funded center with exemplary elementary and secondary education programs for deaf and hard of hearing students and is tasked with developing and disseminating innovative curricula, instructional techniques, and products nationwide while providing information, training, and technical assistance for parents and professionals to meet the needs of deaf and hard of hearing students from birth to age 21.
