Qualitative Findings: Overview


A part of the survey asked respondents to share their perspectives about the barriers preventing deaf and hard of hearing students from achieving their potential. We focused on seven barriers to better understand the respondents’ perspectives:

  • Early Hearing Detection and Intervention
  • Family Involvement and Support
  • Lack of Understanding
  • Language and Communication
  • Literacies
  • Resources
  • Students with Disabilities
After analyzing respondents’ comments, we developed a visual model for each barrier. To learn more about these barriers, check out the information below.

EHDI plays an important role in the lives of deaf and hard of hearing children and their families. It is often the first step for families to receive services to support their child.
