Welcome
Transition, as defined by the Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education
Center, is a lifelong process through which individuals come to
understand themselves as they relate to the world of work. It occurs
through participation in a continuum of developmental activities
available through both formal and informal experiences in and outside
of institutions and agencies.
Career development and transition
in a comprehensive form is a community partnership effort involving
the education system, the home and family structure, and business,
industry, government and a variety of community agencies and organizations.
Transition is one of the three
priority programs at the Clerc Center. Activities related to
transition are guided by the transition coordinator, who works with
eight transition specialists. The Clerc Center also conducts research
and innovative projects in this area.
