Around You is the Clerc Center's e-magazine for deaf and hard of
hearing teens. Distributed via e-mail, it provides motivation
for independent and guided reading and creative writing. World
Around You fosters a sense of community and enhances its readers'
self-esteem by focusing on the achievements of young people who
are deaf and hard of hearing. It also sponsors with Gallaudet University
a national essay, art, and sign contest for deaf and hard of hearing
students with scholarship money awarded to the top place winners.

Students
For the 2007 Gallaudet National Essay, Art, and Sign contest,
the Clerc Center is teaming up with the U.S. Deaflympics Committee
and asks students to respond to the questions: “What does ‘going
for the gold’ mean to you? How do you go for the gold in
your life?”
