The authors describe the importance of creating a multicultural school climate and responding to the needs of families of all cultures. They describe instructional approaches that develop cross-cultural competence in order to demonstrate respect and appreciation for diverse traditions, beliefs, lifestyles, and languages. They also discuss choice of materials and leadership issues. An extensive list of resources, including Web sites, suggested readings for teachers, instructional guides and handbooks, and books for students, is also provided.
