A conference sponsored by the Gallaudet University Regional Centers in collaboration with the University of Arkansas Rehabilitation Research and Training Center for Persons Who Are Deaf and Hard of Hearing Memphis, Tennessee September 18-20, 2006 The goal of the conference is to provide information to enhance the educational experience of deaf and hard of hearing teenagers and to assist them in preparing for life after high school. The conference will provide information on effective practices currently used in classrooms, appropriate assessment tools, and ways to foster student autonomy and self-determination. Building on a series of conferences held in the 1980s, this conference is especially critical with the increase in mainstreamed education programs, advances in technology, and recently identified effective classroom teaching practices. It provides an outstanding opportunity for education professionals and parents to meet each other and to increase their awareness of new programs and practices. Place:
