Home - About MTS

MTS provides an array of high-quality services to the Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center (Clerc Center) in matters pertaining to foreign language interpreting/translation needs. MTS works closely with administrators and staff to produce, and disseminate materials for students, families and professionals speaking languages other than English. We also provide training and technical assistance to schools, programs and families related to the needs of non-English speaking students.

A. Interpreting and translation services:

Bilingual and trilingual services are provided to teachers and staff in the Clerc Center and to families that speak languages other than English whose deaf children are enrolled in our programs.

Interpreters and translators are selected from a unique network of professionals who serve our program.

Interpreting:

Bilingual and trilingual interpreting services are provided to the Clerc Center in 9 languages. Particular services include, but are not limited to interpreting:

1. IEPs and IFSPs from initial communications to the actual meeting.

2. Family Educator's regularly scheduled conference calls.

3. Transition Counselor's conference calls. 

4. Personal Counselor's contacts with families.

5.  Social Worker's routine  or emergency contacts with families.

6. Parent-Teacher meetings, school-wide activities, literacy activities, KHSO meetings, open houses, etc; and

7. Calling-out, receiving and directing messages in several languages from other people involved with multicultural students (such as caretakers, legal advisors, LEA´s, support personnel, etc.)

Translation:

Translation services are provided to the Clerc Center personnel in 9 languages. Particular services include, but are not limited to translating:

1. IEPs and IFSPs.

2. handbooks for both Clerc Center schools.

3. transportation services manuals.

4.  admission packets.

5. surveys, research consent forms, evaluation documents, etc.

6. national mission materials.

7. literacy materials, such as ARAP and bookmarks.

8. school-to-home communications, such as letters, flyers, schedules, permission forms, student health service communications, etc.

9. school-wide communications from: Dean's office, Program Manager's office, Student Life office, etc.

MTS also translates, reviews and edits translated texts for dissemination materials and research documents.

B. Hispanic Phone Line:

MTS runs an Hispanic phone line that is open on regular business hours. Spanish-speaking parents of KDES and MSSD students can use this line to contact the school to make a request, leave a message for different staff members or to report on absences.
