2004 Fall Showcase

Fall Showcase 2004

Students learn to use their bodies as a valuable tool of expression through mime, gesture, and body language.

This year's showcase is "Bye Bye Birdie and will be presented on November 3, at 10 AM and 7 PM; November 4, at 7 PM; and November 5, at 7 PM.


Winter Dance Concert 2005

   
 

Scenes from the 2005 Dance Concert

The 2005 Winter Dance Concert, held on February 17th,18th, and19th, included a variety of genres: modern dance, jazz, folk, hip-hop, and ballet. It featured MSSD students who performed a variety of dance genres choreographed by well-known deaf and hearing choreographers.

Last year's program included dances by the following choreographers:

  • Yola Rozynek: producer - director - choreographer - Ballet - Modern
  • Elizabeth Mathews - Irish Folk Dance
  • Baranda Johnson - Afrojazz
  • Marcia Freeman - Modern
  • Crystal Sermons - Hip-Hop
  • Irvine Stewart - Jazz

And, performances by the following guest dance companies:

  • Steward Carrera
  • Eleanor Roosevelt High School Dance Company
  • TLI Dance Company
  • Wild Zappers/National Deaf Dance Theatre
  • Dakshina/Daniel Phoenix Singh & Company
  • Canae Weiss

Crew

Students learn technical support skills for plays and concerts. Students will build sets, hang lights, run lights and sound, and make props for MSSD productions.


2005 Spring Play

Students learn how to direct a play using character development, the art of stage make-up, and other skills that are needed to produce a successful play. Students also learn the process of teamwork. Personal growth comes from coordinating the various elements together.

Aladdin was the 2005 Spring Play. It was presented on:

Thursday, May 5, at 10am & 7pm
Friday, May 6, at. 8pm
Saturday, May 7, at 8pm

Aladdin is the story about a poor boy who discovers a magic lamp that takes him on many adventures. The MSSD production was directed by senior, Meghan Venturini.


2005 International Awareness Week

   

During International Awareness Week, students had the opportunity to learn about other cultures. Students got to sample international food, see clothing worn by people in other countries, and see a panel discussion about the traditions of the world. Respect for diversity and ethnic tolerance is encouraged by all students.

International Awareness Week was held on March 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11, 2005.
