Every year, since 1998,
the math teachers at the Model Secondary School for the Deaf
have utilized "math
dollars" with their classes and held a math
auction for their students at the end of the year. Credit for
providing us with this wonderful idea goes to Ms. Stephany Faulkner, presenter
at the April 1998 NCTM conference and teacher at the Norfolk Academy in
Norfolk, VA. We thank her for giving us the enthusiasm and excitement
to start on a new adventure. By adapting her ideas to fit the needs
of our deaf and hard of hearing students we have developed an activity
that has become a common component of our daily instruction. We invite
