News:
Hello, everyone! Some of you have been wondering what I am doing
since I graduated from MSSD in 1975. I had been working as a computer
aid at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland
after graduation. I had been promoted six times at the NASA Facility
in Baltimore/Washington International Airport, Maryland, but unfortunately
I was laid off as an associate cataloger/librarian in 1987. I was
able to handle it well for the while when I was unemployed for
only five months.
I considered going back to Gallaudet University to receive a baccalaureate
degree, but I got a new job in November 1987. I have been working
as a medical library technician at the Uniformed Services University
of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland for nearly 12 years.
It is a first-class medical school. I am very happy being a staff
member at the University.
I have a deaf brother named Ronald who he graduated from MSSD in
1977. He had worked as an accountant for the State Department for
over twenty years. He has since gotten a new job in Charleston, South
Carolina. He currently works as a financial analyst and an accountant
for the Medical University of South Carolina. He is believed to be
the first deaf person to hold a professional position at MUSC. He
still hopes to return to the federal government so that he can retire
early when he is in his 50's. His family is living in an historic
house in Charleston. My nephew and neice are very attractive and
intelligent. They are doing very well in a private school.
I have two wonderful dogs. Toto is a Lhasa Apso/Australian Terrier
and Maggy is a Golden Labrador. They are very attractive and affectionate.
My favoriate occasions are Christmas and Halloween. I do enjoy
browsing in antique shops, watching the baseball games, and collecting
originals and reproductions of Coca-Cola items.
I am very happy being single. Maybe I will meet a very special
person someday. Who knows? I would love to hear from all of you.
I am really looking forward to seeing you at the reunion in 2000.
Please keep me informed and updated. :)
Cheers,
Galen, Jr.
