ASL Retelling: Liang and the Magic Paintbrush

This final project was to allow the students to retell a story after they’ve read a book at their instructional level. Students brainstormed their ideas then videotaped themselves retelling the story. Students had to evaluate themselves and determine if the videotaped sections in ASL were clear, accurate and coherent. Students edited and created movies from the captured pieces of work using MovieMaker Program.

Vocabulary Project:   Liang and the Magic Paintbrush, Dragon Kite

Students circled unknown words from reading the Magic Paintbrush and selected the ones they wanted to learn. Fingerspelling, Signing, Meaning and Relating the words to the story was a great way for students to practice vocabulary and make sense of the new words. Microsoft Powerpoint and Movie Maker were used to complete this project. Scanners were also used to extract pictures from the book.
