-- ‘Listening’ Module of Cochlear Implants E-Document Offered --

A new module, “Training the Ear to Listen,” of the KidsWorld Deaf Net E-Document, Cochlear Implants: Navigating a Forest of Information…One Tree at a Time, is now online in English at: http://clerccenter2.gallaudet.edu/KidsWorldDeafNet/e-docs/CI/ModuleM.html and in Spanish at: http://clerccenter2.gallaudet.edu/KidsWorldDeafNet/e-docs/CI-S/ModuleM.html.

The document is designed to assist parents and educators in navigating their way through the extensive “forest” of information about cochlear implants. Cochlear Implants: Navigating a Forest of Information…One Tree at a Time was written by Debra Nussbaum, the coordinator of the Clerc Center’s Cochlear Implant Education Center, and can be found at: http://clerccenter2.gallaudet.edu/KidsWorldDeafNet/e-docs/CI/index.html. -- MSSD 2004-2005 Student-Parent Handbook Added Online --

The 2004-2005 Student-Parent Handbook for the Model Secondary School for the Deaf (MSSD) is now online. It includes information about the Clerc Center and its national mission, instructional programs, student services, athletics, family involvement, residence education, policies and procedures, and other details. -- New Items Added to Training and Professional Development Schedule --

The Clerc Center’s Office of Training and Professional Development (TPD) schedule has been updated online at: http://clerccenter.gallaudet.edu/TPD/training-schedule.html. TPD coordinates the training and technical assistance that the Clerc Center provides to schools and programs throughout the United States. -- 2005 National Essay, Art Contests for Teenagers Announced --

Every year, Gallaudet University challenges deaf and hard of hearing students throughout the United States to write an essay on a specific theme and offers scholarship prizes for the winners. This year’s topic is “A Life Turning Point” and an art contest is being held in addition to the essay contest. -- Performing Arts Program at MSSD Page Revised --

The MSSD Performing Arts Program web page has been revised. It includes details about upcoming events, including the Fall Showcase, the Winter Dance Concert, Spring Play 2005, and International Awareness Week. -- Keys to English Print E-Document Now Available in PDFs --

The Clerc Center’s KidsWorld Deaf Net E-Document Keys to English Print is now available in Adobe PDF. Keys to English Print (http://clerccenter2.gallaudet.edu/KidsWorldDeafNet/e-docs/Keys/index.html) is a collection of articles about philosophies, techniques, and strategies for enabling deaf and hard of hearing children to develop literacy skills. The following articles can be read online or downloaded and printed in PDF:

Info to Go is a centralized source of up-to-date and objective information about topics dealing with deafness and hearing loss for the age group 0-21. The following Info to Go web pages were added or updated in September:

-- Happenings Includes Magazine’s Bullying Articles, Literacy Institute --

A regular feature of On the Green (http://pr.gallaudet.edu/otg), a publication for Gallaudet University faculty and staff, the Clerc Center Happenings columns posted in September discussed the Odyssey (a Clerc Center magazine about deaf education) issue about bullying in schools and the Clerc Center’s Summer Literacy Institute, a week-long workshop for caregivers and educators.

It now includes a Google search for the websites of both the Clerc Center and Gallaudet University. Master.com can be used for searches in specific areas of the Clerc Center website. The Gallaudet search engine is also found on this search web page.


-- Deaf Teen America Site Shares Details About 2005 Pageant --

The web page for the Mr. and Miss Deaf Teen America pageant has been updated to include details about the seventh annual pageant that will be hosted by the Model Secondary School for the Deaf’s Residential Education department April 28-May 1, 2005.
