**************************************************************** This is the E-Newsletter of Gallaudet University's Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center, which works for the education of deaf and hard of hearing students throughout the United States. -- **************************************************************** -- Focus on Learning Project Information Presented on New Site -- A new Web site provides information about the Clerc Center’s Focus on Learning project, in which a team is redesigning the educational program for first, second, and third grade deaf and hard of hearing students at the Kendall Demonstration Elementary School. The site includes information about the project, its team members, and other related information and can be found at: http://clerccenter.gallaudet.edu/FOL/index.html.
Every year, Gallaudet challenges deaf and hard of hearing students throughout the United States to write an essay on a specific theme and offers scholarship prizes for the winners. The theme for the 2004 contest is Random Acts of Kindness and information and guidelines can be found online at: http://clerccenter.gallaudet.edu/WorldAroundYou/essay.html.
The Useful Links of the KidsWorld Deaf Net (KWDN) Virtual Library have been updated. The links are organized into the Clerc Center’s three priority areas of family involvement, transition, and literacy, and can be found at: http://academic.gallaudet.edu/kwdn/index.nsf. KWDN, a national communication network with information for professionals and parents, also includes E-Documents and a Discussion Forum. A regular feature of On the Green (http://pr.gallaudet.edu/otg), a publication for Gallaudet University faculty and staff, the Clerc Center Happenings columns posted in October include articles about the Fall issue of Odyssey, a Clerc Center magazine about the education of deaf and hard of hearing students that will address keys to English literacy skills, and the 2004 National Essay Contest. Info to Go is a centralized source of up-to-date and objective information about topics dealing with deafness and hearing loss for the age group 0-21.
