-- ‘Deaf People Doin’ Everything…’ Among Fall World Around You Stories --

The fall 2002 issue of World Around You, a magazine for deaf and hard of hearing teenagers, includes the stories “Dream Jobs!”; “Deaf People Doin’ Everything… All the Time Everywhere”; “Not Giving Up! The Story of a Deaf Businessman”; “Living with Hearing Loss—An Exciting Life”; an interview with Dr. Glenn Anderson, who teaches at the University of Arkansas; and others. -- KDES, MSSD’s Academics, TecEds Discussed at Board Meeting --

Characteristics and academic achievement at Kendall Demonstration Elementary School (KDES) and the Model Secondary School for the Deaf (MSSD), an update on the Technology in Education Can Empower Deaf Students (TecEds) project, and MSSD student portfolios were among the presentations to the Gallaudet Board of Trustees’ Committee on National Deaf Education in October. These presentations can be viewed at: http://clerccenter.gallaudet.edu/Priorities/bot.html.

-- Deaf Way Art, Alumna Banks’s TV Role Described in Happenings --

A regular feature of On the Green (http://pr.gallaudet.edu/otg), a publication for Gallaudet University faculty and staff, one Clerc Center Happenings column posted in October includes an article on Michelle Banks, an alumna of Kendall Demonstration Elementary School and the Model Secondary School for the Deaf, getting a pioneering television role. Banks plays Delores in “Soul Food,” the first black television show to accept a black deaf actress. The other column posted in October describes how art from Deaf Way II found a home at the Clerc Center.

-- Cochlear Implant Education Center Site Revised, Meningitis Info Added --

The Web pages of the Clerc Center’s Cochlear Implant Education Center (http://clerccenter.gallaudet.edu/CIEC/index.html) have been revised. “Cochlear Implants and Meningitis: Issues for Consideration,” comments about the FDA’s announcement about the possible association between implants and meningitis, has been added to the site. -- Performing Arts Program, Admissions FAQs Updated for KDES, MSSD --

The Office of Training and Professional Development publishes a monthly newsletter, the Clerc Center Connection. The August 2002 issue includes articles on new faces at the Clerc Center, Accreditation for Growth, the National Outreach, Research, and Evaluation Network, cool Web sites, and others.
