-- **************************************************************** -- Family Involvement Recommendations Discussed in Winter Odyssey -- The Winter 2002 issue of Odyssey, a Clerc Center magazine about deaf education, includes articles about family involvement—what schools can do to foster partnerships with families. The articles include “Creating Partnerships with Families,” recommendations from a national forum, as well as articles about Families Count!, Accelerated Reading, captioned media, and the National Mission Advisory Panel members. Odyssey can be read online at: http://clerccenter.gallaudet.edu/Odyssey/Winter2002/index.html or http://clerccenter.gallaudet.edu/Odyssey/index.html. -- Decisions of Hispanic Families Paper Available on KidsWorld Deaf Net -- A Look at the Decisions Hispanic Families Make After the Diagnosis of Deafness has been added to the KidsWorld Deaf Net Virtual Library in English and Spanish. The result of a study that examined the decision-making process for Hispanic families living in the United States who have a child who is deaf or hard of hearing, the paper is by Dr. Annie Steinberg, Lisa Bain, Dr. Yuelin Li, Louise Montoya, and Vivian Ruperto, of the Children’s Seashore House at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Twenty-nine families in four geographical areas share their experiences in learning about their child’s disability, searching for appropriate interventions, and making choices regarding communication and education. The authors explore the impact of language, culture, minority status, and access to information and services on the decision-making process and offer implications for service providers. It is available at: http://clerccenter2.gallaudet.edu/KidsWorldDeafNet/e-docs/HispFam/index.html in English or at: http://clerccenter2.gallaudet.edu/KidsWorldDeafNet/e-docs/HispFam/Spanish-index.html in Spanish. (This document will also be available at a later date in print and online in the Sharing Results series at: http://clerccenter.gallaudet.edu/Products/Sharing-Results/.)
