during February 2002. --Early Intervention, Family Involvement Papers Available in KidsWorld-- --Deaf Students Respond to Terror in New World Around You-- --Careers in Deafness, Statewide Services Updated in Info to Go-- --Clerc Center Portion of Gallaudet’s 2001 Annual Report Posted Online-- --Clerc Center’s New Look, TecEds Activity Database Among Happenings-- **************************************************************** -- Early Intervention, Family Involvement Papers Available in KidsWorld-- Early Beginnings for Families with Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children: Myths and Facts of Early Intervention and Guidelines for Effective Services has been added to the KidsWorld Deaf Net Virtual Library. The document, written by Dr. Marilyn Sass-Lehrer, explores myths and facts about early intervention services and explains what parents and professionals can do to ensure effective services for young children with hearing loss and their families. It can be viewed at: http://clerccenter2.gallaudet.edu/KidsWorldDeafNet/e-docs/EI/index.html. Another paper, We are Equal Partners: Recommended Practices for Involving Families in Their Child’s Educational Program, has also been added to the KidsWorld Deaf Net Virtual Library. It describes the results of a family involvement forum held at the Clerc Center and offers recommendations for school programs on how to involve families in the educational programs of their children. The paper, edited by Dr. Margaret Hallau, will also be printed and posted online through the Sharing Results series. More information about KidsWorld Deaf Net or the other E-Documents in its Virtual Library can be found at: http://clerccenter2.gallaudet.edu/KidsWorldDeafNet/index.html. --Deaf Students Respond to Terror in New World Around You-- The Winter 2001-2002 issue of World Around You, a magazine for deaf and hard of hearing teenagers, includes the story "Terror: Deaf Students Respond." It also includes an interview with math professor Dr. Mohammad Obiedat and a story about mountain climber Heidi Zimmer. The annual report describes the Clerc Center’s background, its national mission projects, the Gallaudet University Regional Centers, the characteristics of Kendall Demonstration Elementary School and the Model Secondary School for the Deaf, and other relevant data. Adobe Acrobat Reader is available for free at: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readermain.html). --Clerc Center’s New Look, TecEds Activity Database Among Happenings-- A regular feature of On the Green (http://pr.gallaudet.edu/otg), a publication for Gallaudet University faculty and staff, the Clerc Center Happenings columns posted in February talk about the TecEds Activity Database, the new Clerc Center logo, an adoption workshop held at the Clerc Center, and a visit from a Russian artist. The TecEds (Technology in Education Can Empower Deaf Students) Activity Database was launched with a drawing for three digital cameras. The article names the drawing winners and provides more information about TecEds and the database, which showcases technology-infused classroom activities that are entered by teachers and staff working with deaf and hard of hearing students across the nation. The Clerc Center’s new look includes a new logo designed by Ralph Fernandez, of Gallaudet University, and a revised home page with new features such as "bread crumbs," a navigation feature at the top and bottom of each Web page. Another Clerc Center Happenings article describes the conference "Raising, Educating, and Supporting Adopted Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children: A Developmental Perspective" that was held at the Clerc Center and hosted by Gallaudet in November. Finally, the Clerc Center Happenings includes an article about Russian artist Galina Mazursky, who displayed and lectured about her artwork in December.
