Enclosed in this issue, you will find what was new, updated, or highlighted on the Clerc Center Web site (http://clerccenter.gallaudet.edu/) during October 2001. WHAT'S IN THIS ISSUE: --South Carolina School Performers Highlighted in World Around You---
A performing troupe, Manual Transmission, from the South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind is among the features of the September/October 2001 World Around You. Other features include a story about the student-run newspaper of Milwaukee's John Marshall High School, an interview with dancer Fred Beam of the Wild Zappers, and a story about National Association of the Deaf Law Center attorney Claudia Gordon. World Around You, a magazine for deaf and hard of hearing teenagers, can be read at: http://clerccenter.gallaudet.edu/WorldAroundYou/sep-oct2001/index.html or http://clerccenter.gallaudet.edu/WorldAroundYou/index.html.
A regular feature of On the Green (http://pr.gallaudet.edu/otg), a publication for Gallaudet University faculty and staff, the Clerc Center Happenings column in October describes the Clerc Center uniting on September 11 as the country was struck by terror. The article highlights the efforts of Clerc Center teachers and staff and others from around Gallaudet who worked together to communicate with parents and meet the needs of students. The article can be read at: http://clerccenter.gallaudet.edu/Clearinghouse/Happenings/crisis.html. Another Clerc Center Happenings article describes the new Eagle Center, located near the Star Gallery at the Model Secondary School for the Deaf. The Eagle Center is completely student-run and will be used for recreation and as a meeting place; it replaces the former snack bar that was located in Residence Hall B. The article can be read at: http://clerccenter.gallaudet.edu/Clearinghouse/Happenings/new-eagle-center.html. Both articles are also accessible (along with the archives) from the Clerc Center Happenings Web site: http://clerccenter.gallaudet.edu/Clearinghouse/Happenings/index.html.
