What's new on the Clerc Center Web site?

This is the E-Newsletter of Gallaudet University's Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center, which works for the education of deaf and hard of hearing students throughout the United States.

***Importance of Transition Planning Illustrated in Summer Odyssey***

The Summer 2001 issue of Odyssey, a Clerc Center magazine about deaf education, includes articles about transition planning and preparation. The article topics include how Clerc Center researchers interviewed deaf students to understand their needs, the importance of teaching self-advocacy and self-determination skills, assessment-based transition, and the impact of school-to-work legislation. Clerc Center students, staff, and teachers gathered in front of MSSD September 14 to remember those that perished in the September 11 terrorist attacks. Interim Clerc Center Dean Katherine Jankowski, Gallaudet Provost Jane Fernandes, and Gallaudet President I. King Jordan, gave brief remarks. Students and staff also shared their thoughts and concerns.
