***Clerc Center Web Site Offers its New Features via Email***

To keep its Web site viewers up to date of what's new or recently revised, the Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center has begun offering this E-Newsletter. It's distributed monthly and will briefly highlight what was new or updated on the Clerc Center site (http://clerccenter.gallaudet.edu/) during the prior month. Know anyone that wants to subscribe? ***Deaf/HOH Teens Record Life-Turning Points in New World Around You***

The May/June issue of World Around You contains this year's winners of Gallaudet's National Essay Contest. In the essays, deaf and hard of hearing teens record life-turning points which included being inspired while working as a camp counselor and lessons learned from grandfather. ***KidsWorld Deaf Net Sponsors Chat About IDEA; Transcripts Available***

KidsWorld Deaf Net (KWDN) recently hosted online chats about the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) with parents and service providers and Celeste Johnson, author of "How the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Applies to Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students" (http://clerccenter2.gallaudet.edu/KidsWorldDeafNet/e-docs/IDEA/index.html)
Transcripts of the chats are available online through the KWDN Discussion Forum (http://clerccenter2.gallaudet.edu/KidsWorldDeafNet/forum.html). (Registration is required to enter the forum.) In addition, registered members can continue the (non-live) dialogue with each other or post questions for Ms. Johnson or other authors of KWDN E-Documents through the Forum threads.


***Several Info to Go Pages Updated***

Info to Go is a centralized source of up-to-date and objective information about topics dealing with deafness and hearing loss for the age group 0-21. Several of the Info to Go pages were updated in July:

***KDES and MSSD Academic Calendars Available***

The 2001-2002 Academic Calendars for Kendall Demonstration Elementary School and Model Secondary School for the Deaf are now available online and can be downloaded in PDF or Excel spreadsheet formats at http://clerccenter.gallaudet.edu/Calendar/index.html.


***Clerc Center Completes TecEds Summer Training***
The ultimate goal of TecEds (Technology in Education Can Empower Deaf Students) is to provide teachers and staff with the know-how to give their deaf and hard of hearing students the technology skills necessary to compete in the work world. More than 20 people participated in this summer's training at the Clerc Center.
