Red Ribbon Week

by Rosaleen, Team 6,7,8 Student

On Monday, Mr. Wood introduced two Social Work Interns to talk to us about the “SAY NO TO DRUGS” Program all over the USA!

On Tuesday, in Mr. Wood’s class, the same women came and we talked about the man who started the Red Ribbon Week!

On Wednesday, we had a discussion about why we don’t need drugs to have fun!

On Thursday, we had role-playing activity and talked about why we don’t want drugs! My role-play talked about a 21 year old girl who begs her little 12 year old cousin to drink and do drugs with her. That 21 year old girl said that it would be fine if the family don’t find out about it. So the 12 years old girl said “NO” and ran to her mother and told her what happened with her cousin!

On Friday, there were some speakers who came and talked about why we need to say “NO” to drugs and why we don’t need drugs to have fun.

“Slam-dunk, Drugs Are Junk” Basketball Game

by Gabrielle’s Language Arts Class

On Thursday morning, the day after the famous Parents/Teachers vs. Students basketball game, Gabrielle asked the students how the game went. “We lost. Parents and teachers won. The score was 28-23.” said Evelyn with a disappointed look. “Harry Wood and Darnell made good shots. Dwight did okay. I tried to shoot but I missed the net. We had fun, we had refreshments.” added Karina.

Praises were given to several students. “Amy was a great player,” said Becky. “Evelyn was so close to catching the ball but missed, it was too bad,” shared Elijah. Overall, it was fun! The students said that Gabrielle missed a fun night!
