Real Miles for Imaginary Travel

As the new Miss Deaf America, Amy Wong must travel and make speeches. In real life, Amy's travel is arranged by Michele Listisard at the National Association of the Deaf. Imagine Amy asked you to help her plan her travel. Imagine that her next trip is a long one. Imagine that she must visit five American cities, and she must do it in the shortest number of miles. The cities are:

  • Greensboro, North Carolina
  • Olympia, Washington
  • Des Moines, Iowa
  • Trenton, New Jersey
  • Albuquerque, New Mexico
map with cities and distances

Amy lives in Sacramento, California. What route should she take to visit all five cities and return home, traveling the least number of miles? Can you figure out her mileage?
