Introduction to Blackboard
Most people have heard about Blackboard, but do you know what it is? Blackboard is a web content management system. What would you use it for: put your syllabus, class schedule/calendar, and homework on-line, create tests on-line, check for plagiarism, discussion forums, extra storage space for your files, communicate with students, gradebook, and much more!
Flickr
Flickr is an online image management and photo sharing application where you can store, sort, search and share your photos online. There is a huge mass of photos in the world, and Flickr provides a way to organize yours. Flickr is free and its fun! Come to this training to learn what Flickr is all about and how you can use it to manage your classroom photos. Be sure to sign up for Flickr Toys, too.
Microsoft Word Horizontal Ruler
There is one area in Word where you can quickly set up margins, tab stops, and hanging indents: the horizontal ruler. The horizontal ruler is the bar across the top of your Word document with measurements marked out on it. Many people ignore it and use the various dialog boxes instead. But once you know how to use it, you'll wonder how you ever coped without it.
MS Word Table of Contents/Index
A table of contents, or TOC, gives readers a brief outline of the topics discussed in a document and helps them find their way around it. An index lists the terms and topics discussed in a document, along with the pages they appear on.

Cool Features of Excel

Gallaudet HelpDesk
Gallaudet HelpDesk is a very easy and efficient way to report problems. It
works like this:
you log in to HelpDesk via the internet, provide a little information about
yourself (your name, building,
room #, etc.), provide a brief description of your problem or need
and submit it. Your request is assigned
to one of the ISCS staff depending on the type of request. You can expect
to be contacted within one
day of submitting the request and the problem should be solved within
three days. We hope you can
join us to learn about this new system. All participants much have a GDOC password
before coming to class.
NOTE: You must have a GDOC password to use the HelpDesk tools.
Microsoft Access
Roll up your sleeves and learn the nuts and bolts of designing a database from scratch. This class will teach you how to design and use all the parts of Microsoft Access: Table, Form, Query, Report, and how to merge some of your data into form letters and mailing labels.
Beginning Microsoft Excel
If you are new to spreadsheets you will want to take this course. You will learn numerous Excel spreadsheet basic functions: arithmetic operators to add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers. You will learn how to quickly total a column of figures by using Autosum. You will insert and delete rows and columns, learn how use SUM, MAX, COUNT, MIN, and AVERAGE. In addition you will learn how to format cells and use the Autofill feature.
Advanced Microsoft Excel
This course builds upon the skills you learned in beginning Excel. You will learn how to use Excel graphs to display and analyze data. You will export Excel data to a database and Microsoft Word, work more deeply with formulas and functions and learn techniques for customizing and changing the appearance of your spread sheet.
Beginning Microsoft Outlook
This course will teach you the basics of Outlook. It will be especially beneficial for people who have recently moved from Netscape to Outlook. You will learn how to set up your email account in Outlook, read, send and delete messages. You will learn about the calendar, tasks and contacts features. In addition you will learn how to attach files to outgoing email messages, different ways to customize your Outlook screen and different techniques for formatting your email messages.
Advanced Microsoft Outlook
This class builds upon the skills you learned in beginning Outlook. In this course you will learn how to create folders and distribution lists. You will also learn how to import an external address book into your Outlook account, manage your email by using Outlook rules, work with Favorites and learn techniques to eliminate or reduce junk mail.
Microsoft PowerPoint
Impress your audience with professional presentations that sizzle! Microsoft PowerPoint is a presentation program that displays your work on the screen as slides. This basic course will introduce simple "how to" of presentation design and production. You will learn how to create a multimedia presentation using a template and add graphics, animation and sound.
PowerPoint Games
Learn how use and manipulate pre-made PowerPoint game show templates (Jeopardy, Who Wants to be a Millionaire, Weakest Link, Hollywood squares) to teach math and language concepts and just have some fun! Each participant will receive a floppy with all templates.
Microsoft Publisher
Publisher is a destop-publishing program that can be used to create newsletters, calendars, business cards, flyers, and so much more using professionally designed templates or by creating your own.
Microsoft Word Form Fields
The objective of this course is to learn how to make a tamper proof document or template using Microsoft Word form field features.

This workshop teaches how to create a movie using

transfer digital video to computer, edit video clips which are put

Weblogs or "blogs" are
public journals that are easy to set up and use. Teachers use blogs
to create a classroom or personal web page without the need to learn
html or web publishing software. Students can use blogs
for self-expression and reflection or to collaborate with other students.

In this class we
will review the various features and continue becoming comfortable with
e-IEP Pro - our new on-line IEP program. Among other things you will
learn how to enter the e-IEP Pro program and locate students, add goals,
objectives and criteria. You will learn how to add services and print
the IEP in it's entirety or just a few sections.
Gradekeeper
Learn how easy it is to keep track of your grades with Gradekeeper. This program is installed on all the Clerc Center computers and is real simple to learn and use.
Inspiration
Inspiration 7 is a visual learning tool that supports achievement for students in grades 6-adult. Learn how to use Inspiration 7 for brainstorming, webbing, diagramming, planning, critical thinking, concept mapping, organizing and outlining.
Kidspiration 2
Learn how to use Kidspiration 2 to help young readers and writers to develop and organize their ideas, creatively and confidently. We will also look at some K-5 classroom examples of reading and writing, science and social studies activities.

Skillport is a new, very comprehensive Gallaudet supported web-based training tool that allows you to learn on your own time and at your own pace. Learn the ins and outs of this very helpful program. In this course you will how to enter Skillport to begin your training, how to take pre-tests and post tests and how to choose the subject area or topic you want to learn about.

This workshop will demonstrate the SMART Notebook
technology and its use with the SMARTBoard in a classroom or meeting
environment.
Taking Photos with your camcorder
Learn how to use your digital camcorder to take still
images. The camcorder uses memory card to store images and can be used
like a digital camera.
Turnitin (http://turnitin.com)
With the internet becoming the main resource
for students' research, plagiarism is becoming much more difficult
for teachers to detect. TurnItIn is a web based program that allows
teachers and students to check work for plagiarism. Teachers are
able to see which students are copying and pasting information
off the web or copying it out of books. Students are able to monitor
themselves and develop a better understanding of what plagiarism
is.

In this class the following questions will be answered. Someone sent me a .pdf file…I tried to read it in word and it didn't work? What should I use? My file is too big. I need to compress it, so that I can save it on my disk. What can I use? I would like to share my files with another teacher. Right now…we are using a zip disk, cd or floppy. Is there another way?
