Task

Your task will be to work as a team of four individuals to write a play.  You will each have a role in which you will decide upon a natural phenomenon and what Greek God created it and how.  You will write the play which will include roles, setting, sets, props, costumes and actors.  You will research Greek Mythology and then discuss the components of the a play and make decisions as a team.  You will then propose your play to the producer to see if it will be produced or not.

Process

Step 1 You will get into your groups and decide on who will take on which role.  Make sure you read the role descriptions carefully and that you like what you have chosen because you will not be able to change your roles.  Now you will discuss what natural phenomenon you want to explain in your play.  Some examples include the Grand Canyon, thunder and lightning, the Hawaiian Islands, volcanos, the oceans, the continents, Mt. St. Helens, etc.
Step 2

Step 3

Step 4

Director: The director is the leader of the group and the time keeper.  The director is in charge of writing the script.  You will also make sure the the group is staying on task and progressing through the project at an appropriate pace.
Casting Director: The casting director is in charge of studying the characteristics of the Greek Gods and other characters to be in the play
and then choose actors to fill those parts.  You will have to research both the Greek Gods and select the actors, either professional or not, to
be in the play.
Costume Designer:  The costume designer is in charge of designing the costumes that will be worn in the play.  The costume designer and the set
designer will work together closely.  You will have to draw pictures to submit to the prospective producer that will show your costume ideas.  You
will need to be very creative.
Set Designer:  The set designer is in charge of designing the set and what it will look like on stage.  You will work closely with the costume designer and also draw pictures of your set and decide on props and other materials on the stage that are appropriate for the era and story that you are conveying.

Conclusion

You will be graded on the above rubric for your team work, individual work, completing on time and how well your presentation is.  You will also write a reflection of the project for your English Portfolio and turn that in for a grade as well.  You will not only be evaluated by me, the teacher, but you will also be evaluated by your peers in the group.

Ask students how their roles could have been interpreted in a different light?

Ask students if they had interpreted their roles differently, how might the outcome have changed?

Ask students if they were flexible enough to compromise with the group and attain resolution, or did they yield to group pressures?

Ask students what new questions did the issue(s) generate? Why would these new questions be important in answering the original question(s)?
