The Clerc Center recognized the need for training teachers first in order
to have a strong positive impact on the computer skills of it students.
From that need came the idea of the TecEds project. The project, as envisioned
by Clerc Center staff, was a small one. Discussions began with the Gallaudet
University Development Office and the project grew. As we brainstormed
ideas for a grant to the Mitsubishi Electric
America Foundation (MEAF), the little project became a national effort
over two years.
As
part of the project, we provided SMART Boards and NEC digital projectors
for teams at the Clerc Center. This was done by using current funds with
the grant opportunities provided through the SMARTer
Kids Foundation grant funds.
As the project showed signs of success and as the vision of the project
grew, we realized the need for additional funding and worked closely with
the Development Office to
identify additional potential grant sources.
Mitsubishi expressed their confidence in the project by awarding an additional
$20,000 in January, 2002.

The NEC Foundation of America also saw the benefit to our students from
the TecEds project and contributed $15,000 in April 2002. And, most recently,
the SBC Communications joined our efforts by contributing $25,000 in September
2002.
These additional funds will be used to provide training to up to 72
teachers and staff through week-long
training sessions offered at the
Gallaudet
University Regional Centers during Summers
2003 and 2004.
Listed below are the current sources of financial support for the project
and outstanding grant requests:
