Professional Development
Each
academic year, TPD provides a full program of professional development
for teachers and staff throughout KDES and MSSD, with an emphasis on integrating
the training and experiences of previous years. Professional development
focuses on helping teachers and staff achieve a deeper level of understanding
and application of the schools' educational principles and philosophy,
with special emphasis on the national mission priorities and initiatives,
as well as certain identified priorities within KDES and MSSD (e.g., literacy,
curriculum integration, community building
, and transition). Also, as part of the professional development of teachers
and staff, TPD provides train-the-trainer services to all personnel who
are involved in national mission training initiatives.
Professional Development Study Groups
During the FY '02 year, we initiated professional development study groups
as a way for teachers and staff to gain a level of expertise in a variety
of focus areas. Teachers and staff select topics they would like to explore
in depth and are given time to study, apply, adapt and model best practices
with other interested colleagues.
Study Group Topics include:
- Technology
- Critical Thinking
- Arts in Education
- ASL/English
- ADHD/LD
- Expressive Therapy
- Family School Relations
- Children's Literature
