Lynne Erting has taught deaf children for 16 years. She teaches 2 1/2- to 4-year-old deaf children at Kendall Demonstration Elementary School on the campus of Gallaudet University. She is currently participating in a collaborative research project involving both university and teacher researchers. Ms. Erting is also a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Maryland in the areas of emergent language and literacy development and bilingual education. Judy Pfau received her M.A. from Western Maryland College and has taught deaf children for 8 years. She taught four- to five-year-olds at Kendall Demonstration Elementary School, where she was known for her narrative ability in American Sign Language, her native narrative language. Ms. Pfau was also participating in a collaborative research project in her former position as preschool teacher at Kendall Demonstration Elementary School, and is particularly interested in the language and literacy development of young deaf children.
