For you
This is a poem for you, my future child.
My future child whose eyes haven’t seen the changing world,
Whose nose haven’t smelt the roses in a vineyard, tongue haven’t
tasted
My mother’s mouth-watering homemade chocolate chip and toffee cookies.
I have yet know the color of your hair,
What kind of smile you will have, or how tall you will be.
I do not know if you will be a girl in baby blue bonnet darning mitts
or
A boy in pine green overall playing with crayon yellow toy truck.
However, I know your heart just like I know the back of my hand.
I feel your delights and aches. What bittersweet feelings they are!
I can see you dancing in victory and heaving in misery.
In my dreams, I catch glimpses of you growing
Even through
I did not realize it was you the whole time.
This is a poem in the blessing of your existence,
I patiently await for on this earth,
So I’d know if you are blond or brunette,
If you are girl or boy, if you’d even like my mother’s cookies.
But to start our lifetime journey together is what
I am waiting for.
My future child,
This is a poem for you, my dear future child
To see what the stars have in store
For us. |
