[My
daughter] is making real progress. She is interested more in the
story.
[Our tutor] has good suggestions for signing the signing the story.
Generally, I notice that she is more interested in reading overall.
She wants to know what words mean, etc.
We really like [our tutor] and the program. I wish it could last
longer.
Great story!
[My daughter] is very perceptive. She can see the story once and
is ready to recite it back to me.
[My daughter]'s patience is improving a great deal. [Tutor] helped
encourage her to stay into the story. [Tutor] helped me with vocabulary
a great deal.
[My daughter] has made a lot of progress through the program. She
is more interested in what the words say--not just the pictures.
[Tutor] has helped me expand on the story.
The program is finished. [Our daughter] really benefited from it.
Also, we did as a family. [Our tutor] did a wonderful job.
Thank you so much for the experience. We learned how to read together-
stories, make them fun & interesting.
[Tutor] arrived and [our son] chose the book "I Went Walking."
It is a beginner book. [Tutor] had me read the book to [our son]-gave
me a good advice-slow down, point to letters and pictures, make
sure I sit so I have good eye contact with [my son]. The book was
easy for me to sign. Learned a few new signs. It was a bit more
difficult for my husband as he is a beginner signer. I was very
encouraged by his determination to sign the book.

[My husband] read the book to [our son]. [Our son] corrects my
husband. He loves to be the teacher.
I read to [my son] signing the best I can (after viewing video
tape). I leave out some words and invent or rather substitute signs
for the words I am not sure of.
[My son] wants to read the book from the school library "The
Mystery of the Boy Next Door" by Elizabeth Montgomery, drawings
by Ethel Gold. The book is a bit too advanced for Michael so I do
not read word for word. He likes to go through book and pick out
words I fingerspell- the children's names and also to pick out words
he knows like boy, girl, and ball.
[Tutor] came and [my husband] practiced "I Love Spiders"
and "School Bus." I read "School Bus" and "The
Mystery of the Boy Next Door." I need a lot of help with the
2nd book. It is too advanced for me. [My husband] has really improved!
It is so good to see him reading to [our son].
[My son] wants to read the book "Me Too!" by Mercer Mayer.
We both like this book. There are only a few signs (skateboard,
sled, hold up) that I don't know. [My son] is paying better attention
to me when I read to him.
[My husband, son] and I all read "Me Too!" [My son] knows
the story pretty well now and enjoys reading along with us.
[Tutor] came. Really helped us out with the story. I don't feel
awkward at all signing in front of [the tutor]. I am usually shy
because my signing is slow and not very advanced. [My husband] also
feels at ease.
We thoroughly enjoy [our tutor's] visits. We enjoy conversation
and sharing our family time with him. Our children enjoy his presence
and feel comfortable signing and playing with him.
[Our son] favors this book a lot- we read it several times a day-again-we
add more and more to the story. We "act" out the book
and physically become the characters.
[Our son] really enjoyed the "School Bus Book." It was
also great for our 5 year old because he is learning to read and
was able to practice his reading and signing skills as we all enjoyed
watching the boys share this book.
I want to thank you for allowing our family to participate in the
Shared Reading Program. [Our tutor] has taught us many things and
we enjoy his company. We look forward to participating in the fall
and hope and pray our family signing skills continue to develop.
