About the Library
Kendall
School Library is the library of the Kendall
Demonstration Elementary School (KDES). The primary users of
the library are KDES students, teachers, and staff. It also serves
users from Model Secondary School
for the Deaf (MSSD) and Gallaudet
University. The Kendall School Library and MSSD Learning Resources
Center are part of the Literacy Programs unit of the Laurent
Clerc National Deaf Education Center.
Library Hours
The Library's hours of operation are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday
through Friday (excluding Tuesday - closed at 3:00 PM) on scheduled
school days and during the summer months.

Children's Library (Main Room) contains picture books,
fiction, folklore, nonfiction, easy-to-read books, biography, reference
books, big books and children's magazines. The books for the Accelerated
Reader (AR) and deaf-related books in children's literature are
also shelved. A TV with DVD and VHS players may be used for small
group discussion.
Computer Lab / Materials Room has six computers including
networks such as World Wide Web and e-mail system, and a laser
printer. It stores ample visual resources of videotapes, filmstrips,
study prints, posters, and vertical files. Deaf-related professional
books and special collections are shelved. The students must be
accompanied by teacher or staff at all time in the Computer Lab
/ Materials Room.
Teacher / Staff Room is the home of the collections in
Guided Reading (GR) and Shared Reading Project (for SRP tutors
only). The publisher's catalogs, professional books and professional
journals are also shelved there.
Events
The Kendall School Library hosts the annual Scholastic Book Fair
in the spring.
