Resources on Educational Interpreting

The role of a classroom interpreter, also called an educational interpreter, is challenging. An educational interpreter provides facilitation of communication between deaf students and other non-signing members of the school community, including teachers and hearing classmates. The interpreter listens to, understands, and translates what the teacher is communicating to the students in a manner that the students understand.

We offer this list of resources as a way to help identify what has already been done to assist groups beginning the process of developing guidelines and standards for educational interpreters.

These are resources we have identified to date. We encourage readers to send us names of any other resources so that we may verify them and add them to this list. E-mail us at clearinghouse.infotogo@gallaudet.edu.
