What does Info to Go do? Info to Go, from the Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center's office of Publications and Information Dissemination (formerly the National Deaf Education Network and Clearinghouse), is a centralized source of accurate and objective information on topics dealing with deafness and hearing loss in children and young people under 21 years of age. Info to Go responds to a wide range of questions from the general public, deaf and hard of hearing people, their families, and professionals who work with them. Info to Go collects, develops, and disseminates information on deafness, hearing loss, and services and programs related to children with hearing loss from birth to age 21. Why
was Info to Go established? Since its designation as a national institution for the instruction of deaf and hard of hearing individuals in 1864, the administration, faculty and staff of Gallaudet University have continuously responded to information requests related to deafness and hearing loss. By the late 1970s, thousands of letters addressed "Gallaudet College" were being received each year from individuals across the United States and numerous foreign countries. A new method for receiving and responding to these requests was required. In 1979, Gallaudet undertook a year-long grant-supported study which surveyed professionals and agency personnel across the country and indicated the need for a centralized information center to handle the growing demand for information and materials related to deafness and hearing loss. Thus, Info to Go was established within Gallaudet University in response to both an institutional and a national need. In 1991, the Clerc Center took over the aspects of the service that related to deaf and hard of hearing children and young people under 21. Info to Go is one of six national clearinghouses, "Clearinghouses in Collaboration," that provide information on disability-related issues. The other clearinghouses are: The National Information Clearinghouse on Children Who Are Deaf-Blind Educational Resources Information Center (ERIC) National Dissemination Center for Children with Disabilities The George Washington HEATH Resource Center National Clearinghouse for Professions in Special Education
