A Closer Look

Program Check-In

All students will need to make arrangements to arrive at Gallaudet University for check-in procedures between 1:00pm-5:00pm on Monday, June 19th. Students will have their first dinner together at 5:30pm, and the opening program session will begin at 6:30pm.

Routine Schedule

For each of the eight full weekdays of the program, participants will follow a structured schedule of events. Listed below is the tentative schedule of weekday activities for Tuesday (6-20) through Friday (6-23) and Monday (6-26) through Thursday (6-29):

7:45 – 8:30

 

Breakfast — Gallaudet Cafeteria

 

 

 

8:30 – 11:30

 

AP “Preview” Classes — MSSD

 

 

Students will be given the opportunity to participate in Advanced Placement “preview” classes as part of the program. Preview classes offered will present snapshots of AP US History, AP English, and AP Biology, and AP Psychology. These classes will provide students with a glimpse into what it is like to take an AP course and/or college level course. Students will participate in interactive, fun activities which will challenge and motivate them as academic learners.

 

 

 

11:30 – 12:30

 

Lunch — Gallaudet Cafeteria

 

 

 

12:30 – 3:30

 

"Journey Through Deaf History” — MSSD

 

 

Students will gain an in-depth understanding of Deaf History by participating in various activities designed to enrich knowledge of the subject. Students will also have the opportunity to learn about the history of Gallaudet University and hear special presentations from some of the leading experts in the field of Deaf History.

 

 

 

3:30 – 5:30

 

Afternoon Activities — Gallaudet University

 

 

 

5:30 – 6:30

 

Dinner — Gallaudet Cafeteria

 

 

 

6:30 – 9:00

 

Evening Leadership Activity — MSSD

 

 

Program participants will engage in leadership simulations, discussions, debates, and interactive activities which explore the concept of leadership in the twenty-first century. Evening Leadership Facilitators will guide the students through a wide variety of individual and team-building exercises designed to expand upon the many different leadership characteristics unique in each participant.

Closing Activity/Free Time — MSSD Dorms

Lights Out — MSSD Dorms

Weekend in Washington

On Saturday and Sunday, June 24 & 25, Summit 2006 will participate in an exciting tour of the Washington, DC area. Students will visit many of the city’s most historic sites and will experience first-hand the exciting history this city has to offer. More specific details about Weekend in Washington will be available soon.

Program Conclusion/Departure

The closing activity and dinner will be on Thursday evening, June 29. All students must make arrangements to depart from campus by noon on Friday, June 30.
