The Clerc Center Honors
Program
Model Secondary School for
the Deaf Honors Program
MSSD currently offers two types of courses through the Honors Program:
honors and Advanced Placement (AP) classes. Honors classes are essentially
preparatory coursework for future AP and/or college courses, and the
student receives a challenging, in-depth look into the subject matter
through a wide variety of higher-level assignments and readings.
Honors
courses offered for the 2006-2007 school year are as follow:
- English 9
- English 10
- English 11
- English 12
- government
- world history
- US history
- biology
- physical science
- chemistry
- earth systems science
- geometry
- trigonometry
Our most rigorous courses are called Advanced Placement. AP classes
are college equivalent classes which provide the student with an intensive
foundation from which to gain competency in a particular discipline.
At the end of the course, the student is expected to take the AP exam,
for which a passing score earns him/her college credit. All AP curriculum
and exams are created and administered by The College Board.
AP courses offered for the 2006-2007 school year at MSSD are
- AP English-Language
- AP English-Literature
- AP Psychology
- AP US History
This year the Honors Program has expanded its options and is now offering
CE courses. The two CE Honors courses offered for the 2006-2007 school
year at MSSD are:
- ACT Prep/ Personal Finance
- Honors Senior Seminar
Currently, 72 MSSD students are enrolled in at least one honors/AP course,
and 39 of these students are taking 3, 4, or 5 honors/AP classes.
