You
will be assigned to a cooperative group of 2 or 3 agents.
Step
2: Select a Planetary Tour Package for Three Agents
Your group
will choose one of the following planetary tour packages to research.
- Tour Package #1 includes
a landing on the Earth's moon and flybys of Venus and Mercury.
- Tour Package #2 includes
a landing on Mars through the Asteroid Belt and onto a flyby of Jupiter
and Saturn.
- Tour Package #3 includes
a flyby of Uranus, Neptune and Pluto.
Select a Planetary
Tour Package for Two Agents
- Tour Package #1 includes
a flyby of Mercury and Venus.
- Tour Package #2 includes
a landing on Earth and Earth's moon.
- Tour Package #3 includes
a landing on Mars and a flyby of Jupiter.
- Tour Package #4 includes
a flyby of Saturn and Neptune.
- Tour Package #5 includes
a flyby of Uranus and Pluto.
Step
3 Role Selection
Choose one of the following
roles:
Data Collector Role
- Go to Resources to
learn more about the planets.
- Fill out the Data
Collection Log for each planet in the package .
- Write a paragraph for
the brochure describing the possibility of life on the planet.
- Use the Evaluation
Guide to make sure you include all the necessary information.
- Make sure the information
is accurate.
- Estimate the length of
the tour from start to return to Earth. (bonus of one point)
- Estimate the cost of
the tour (bonus of 1 point)
Tour
Guide Role
- Go to Resources to
learn more about the planets.
- Write a description of
each planet for the brochure.
- Include interesting features
to be highlighted on the flyby tour of each planet such as the
moons, rings, craters, volcanoes, valleys, canyons, type of climate,
etc.
- Find pictures to include
in the brochure.
- Use the Evaluation
Guide to make sure you include all the necessary information.
- Make sure the information
is accurate.
Safety Engineer
Role (for three travel agent groups)
- Go to Resources to
learn more about the planets.
- Write a paragraph in
the brochure describing precautions and warnings for tourists to
the planets in the tour package.
- Make sure to include
reasons why a flyby instead of a landing is required.
- Use the Evaluation
Guide to make sure you include all the necessary information.
- Make sure the information
is accurate.
Step
4: Daily Research Journal
Keep
a daily journal of your research. Date each entry in your journal.
Record web sites visited and books read during your research. Write
facts, explanations, examples, and ideas into your daily research journal.
Step
5: Brochure
After you have gathered data
and completed your research. Begin to write your section of the brochure.
Step
6: Cover Design for the Brochure
As a group, design a cover
for your brochure. Be sure to include pictures of each planet in the
tour package in the brochure
Step
7: Travel Poster
As a group, you will design
a travel poster for your tour package. You may choose to make one poster
of all three planets or individual posters for the planets.
Step
8: Oral Presentation
Planetary Tours, Inc. will
present our new planetary tour packages at the Travel Expo at the end
of the quarter. Students, parents, teachers and staff are expected
to attend the Travel Expo. Be ready to answer any questions they may
have. Remember they are potential customers. See the Evaluation
Guide to make sure you are prepared for your presentation.
