Dr. Michael Moore
Teaches Class
for
MSSD Seniors

March 4, 1998
Dr. Michael L. Moore of the Gallaudet University Chemistry and Physics Department taught a class for MSSD seniors on Ozone chemistry. Dr. Moore's discussion with the seniors was arranged with the idea of providing students with a sense of what a university professor's classroom is like. Dr. Moore chose a topic to fit with Earth System Science environmental issues which the seniors are currently studying in class.

Dr. Moore
lecturing Dr. Moore discussed the Earth's protective ozone layer, how satellites are helping us understand the ozone layer, and why loss of the ozone layer is a problem for society. He showed students a variety ozone resources on the World Wide Web.

Displaying a chart showing monthly changes in the ozone hole over the Antarctica, Dr. Moore emphasized the use of the scientific method to study environmental problems. "Satellites provide us with megabytes of data - we could not handle it all without computers to helps us with the data analysis." commented Dr. Moore.
