Talks with Seniors
about
Teacher Education

January , 1998
In preparation for our senior's futures, Dr. David Martin, Professor of Education at Gallaudet University was able to share perspectives and talk with some of our students about becoming teachers. According to senior, Amber Marchut,(right) Dr. Martin explained the differences between elementary and high school courses. "He said that elementary school has a more general focus while courses in high school should be selected with a specific major in mind."

Ms. Marchut notes that Dr. Martin stressed that students who plan on majoring in education should earn their B.A. in general education. It is vital that, as teachers, they get certification. If they choose to go on to graduate school they may want to focus on a deaf education major at that level. There is a great need for deaf teachers of deaf students.
