The next step was to determine what concepts the children already had about electricity.

 
"If I press this button,

    what will happen?"
 

All the children agreed:

" The light will go on!"

 

  Note: The doorbell on the door frame in the Communication Lab at school is connected to a light inside the “house,” typical of what one would find in a home where deaf people live. Pressing the doorbell activates both a sound and a light.
 

 

      "If I flick this switch,

                                 what will happen?"

    

 

 

All the children agreed:

" The light will go on!"

 

The switch on the wall operates the ceiling lights.
