MSSD LIBRARY AND AV MEDIA SERVICES

Beginning of the school year: Please ask all students, teachers, and staff members in your team to fill out a registration form. The LRC patron database will be updated based on information collected. Return the forms to the LRC or mailbox #116.

Loan (or circulation) periods: LRC is very flexible on extensions. Please contact the librarian if needed.

Locating material in the LRC: Use the LRC Catalog Plus. These are on both stand-alone and Internet-accessible computers. Please inform any LRC staff if you need assistance.

Ready reference: Identified by the prefix RR on call numbers. These books are highly popular reference books which are shelved behind the charge desk (i.e. Deaf Heritage, current encyclopedia, almanacs, references in CD-ROM, MSSD Yearbooks, and others). ID cards must be presented in exchange for any RR item.

In-house use of LRC items: Please leave your used books on the gray book carts or drop them in the return books bin at the charge desk.

Overdue notices and other LRC announcements: These will be sent to teams through the Lead Teacher (LT). Lists of students with overdues will be sent to the LT. The LT's are requested to post these lists in the team area.

Passes: Our only way of knowing if a student in the LRC is cutting class or not.

  1. One to two students may be sent to the LRC without an adult. However, the teacher or staff members must write a pass for them. Please use a real pass form, not some paper scraps. Sign your name legibly so we know whom to call if problems arise.
  2. Three or more students must be accompanied by an adult from the team.

Classes coming to LRC for research: Please assign monitors to tidy up after your class (push chairs and tables back in place, pick up trash, return pencils, glue, etc.).

Lunch time and breaks between classes: Other classes or students may be doing research projects in the LRC. Students who wander in and loiter in the LRC are bound to interrupt and cause trouble.

  1. The pass requirement applies.
  2. Students must not pass through the LRC going to or coming from the cafeteria.

Reserving books for class use in the LRC:

  1. Tell the librarian which books are to be put on reserve, and the dates when your class will need them.
  2. Your students come to the LRC to use the books there. Instruct your students that they must return the books to the reserve cart when they finish. Inform the LRC staff if any of the books may be checked out by your students.

Teachers and staff members may also check out (in their name) several books and bring those to their classroom for class use there.

Computer use: School project-related research is given top priority. Word processing must give way to research projects.

  1. Not for e-mail or chatrooms.
  2. Not for accessing inappropriate sites (i.e. pornographic sites)
  3. Sign-up in the LRC to reserve a computer. Only one computer can be reserved for a class at anytime. If other computers are available during the reserve time, the class is free to use those also.

Penalty for inappropriate use of LRC computers: Suspension of e-mail privileges.

Printers: School project-related printing only. This is a free service to LRC users. Therefore, frugality on paper and ink is the rule. Recycled paper will be used when supplies are low.

TV viewing areas: Sign up in the LRC to reserve areas for your class. For VCR setups in your classroom, contact the AV Technician in Room 115 or at ext.3334 (v/t).

AV Media Services: Requests must be made on Media Service Request Form available at Rm 115, or email to the AV technician. Except in emergencies, request must be submitted at least two days prior to the event. Additional follow-up by the requestor will help ensure coordinated services. Major equipment repairs will be contracted out, so, please plan accordingly. Training in the use of any AV equipment may be requested from the AV Technician.

Poster-maker: The machine is in the Production Room, 119b. Maximum of three 34" x 23" posters at a time may be printed per event. For exceptions please contact the Librarian or AV Technician. Teams should consider purchasing their own rolls of poster paper.

  1. Original art work or text should be on a legal- or letter-size paper.
  2. A ½" margin should be left blank around the edges of the paper. The poster-maker will not reproduce anything on that margin.
  3. No pre-heating time is necessary. Ask the librarian or AV technician for assistance. You may print the poster yourself, or arrange for a later pick up.

Laminating machine: Only Clerc Center instructional materials may be laminated. Please contact the AV Technician in Rm.115, or ext. 3334. Preheating time is from 20 to 25 minutes. For safety reasons, we prefer that the AV Technician operate this equipment.

Old magazines for clipping: These are on the shelves near Room 117. You may also take some of them for use in your team area.

End of the school year: Bills for overdue items will be sent to parents as a last resort to collect unreturned LRC items.

Requests for purchase and comments or suggestions: Most welcome. Please submit them to the librarian.
