Section 3:
Demonstration Schools (KDES and MSSD)
REQUEST FOR SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS PROCEDURES
These procedures will allow teams to request substitute teachers when
teacher/researchers are absent or involved in national mission activities.
- Any unit needing a substitute teacher must contact the Lead Teacher
on their team. The Lead Teacher informs the MSSD Program Manager. The
request may be in person, by telephone, in writing on a Substitute Request
Form, or via e-mail. The request must include the following information:
- Lead Teacher's Name
- Team
- The reason a substitute is needed
- A specific request for a substitute (if any)
- The MSSD Program Manager contacts a substitute teacher. (If a specific
request is made, every effort is made to contact this individual first.)
- The MSSD Program Manager confirms the assignment with the Lead Teacher.
- Substitute teachers are expected to arrive promptly at 8:15 a.m. and
to sign in on the "Sub List" at the MSSD Program Manager's
office.
- After signing in, substitute teachers report to the Lead Teacher of
the assigned team.
- Lead Teachers are expected to provide lesson plans and any instructions
for carrying out the day's activities. After receiving instructions
from the Lead Teacher, the substitute teacher assumes responsibility
for assigned classroom activities and works with the team throughout
the day. (A 30-minute lunch break should be provided.) The substitute
teacher is expected to remain with the team until 3:45 p.m.
- At the end of the day, the substitute teacher reports to the MSSD
Program Manager's office and completes a time card.
- Time cards are retained in the MSSD Program Manager's office. The
MSSD Program Manager's office is responsible for ensuring that time
cards are appropriately completed and for forwarding time card information
to the Personnel/Budget Office in accordance with the bi-weekly payroll
schedule.
